Russia deploys police battalion to Syria from Ingushetia
The Russian Ministry of Defense has deployed a military police battalion to Syria from Ingushetia, the head of the Republic, Yunus-bek Yevkurov, stated, RIA Novosti reported.
The battalion will ensure the safety of the Russian air wing and the Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in Syria, Yevkurov said.
“We have sent to Syria a military police battalion, whose numbers include citizens from the Republic, for work in those settlements and cities where the separate sides signed a peace agreement,” Yevkurov said and added that the battalion was on a “peacekeeping mission.”
He also reported that Ingushetia will be sending its first humanitarian aid package to Syria.
Russia had already sent one military police battalion to Syria in December 2016. A video of the battalion members disembarking in Syria has been published online.
