Rogue Separatist Unit Defeated by DPR Forces
The headquarters of a separatist splinter unit within the DPR, "Troy", has officially confirmed reports regarding the defeat of the group.
The group reported via the Vkontakte social network that after 30 days of siege, the force reconnaissance company was destroyed by the superior force of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). The exact number of deceased, wounded and prisoners taken have not yet been revealed.
The report noted that the order for the assault “was given by the Defense Minister of the DPR, Vladimir Petrovich Kononov. He received direct approval from the Head of the Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko.”
The Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine stated that among prisoners of the Troy unit were four females between 24 and 30 years old. These prisoners “had been illegally detained for a long time.” Any further information remains unknown.
In addition and according to Kiev, the DPR separatists detained 24 soldiers of Troy. It was also reported that two civilians had died in the Donbass region as a result of the skirmish.
Earlier, some soldiers of Troy claimed that the Ministry of Defense of the DPR was trying to destroy their unit.
The incident is yet another indication of the increasing level of fragmentation within the ranks of Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine.
