Norway: Russia is responsible for peace in the Crimea

In response to the Russian accusations that Ukraine has prepared sabotage actions in the Crimea, the Norwegian minister of foreign affairs, Børge Brende, stated that Russia bears special responsibility for avoiding further escalation of the situation around the Crimea, the press service of the Embassy of Ukraine in Norway reported on Sunday.

“Norway stands in solidarity with the rest of the global community concerning the international legal status of the Crimea. The Crimea is and will be a part of Ukraine. The annexation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia is a violation of international law. Russia bears special responsibility to prevent further escalation of the situation,” the minister said.

Børge Brende expressed concern about tension in relations between Russia and Ukraine, and called on parties to refrain from making statements or taking steps that could lead to further escalation of the situation.

The Embassy notes that the Norwegian community has responded broadly to the Ambassador of Ukraine to Norway, Viacheslav Yatsiuk’s, address to Ukrainians in Norway and Norwegian citizens, asking that they disseminate accurate information on the recent provocation of Russia against Ukraine, and the call to consider other measures and initiatives in support of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian community of Norway has planned to hold a public campaign in support of Ukraine in the city center of Oslo.
