Media reports suggest Poroshenko dismissed Saakashvili
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree to dismiss Mikheil Saakashvili from the post of Governor of the Odessa region, according to Odessit.ua, citing a source close to the presidential administration.
The dismissal decree was signed by Poroshenko with an “open date” because, according to the publication, the Ukrainian President has not yet found a suitable replacement for Saakashvili.
The Presidential administration is currently considering several well-known candidates for the position, the news portal stated.
According to Dozhd, Saakashvili’s spokesman declined to comment on the report.
Rumors circulated in February that the Governor of Odessa would submit his resignation in early March.
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili became an adviser to President Poroshenko in February of 2015. In May he was appointed head of the Odessa regional administration.
