Media: Five Russian soldiers killed in a car explosion in Syria

Five Russian soldiers were killed in a car explosion on the road between the cities of Jableh and Baniyas in Latakia province, as reported by Al Jazeera citing a source in the Syrian opposition.

The incident happened on February 4. The source states that the army personal carrier was transporting ammunition and soldiers.

According to Al Jazeera, this was not a terrorist act. The likely cause of the explosion is a technical malfunction in the vehicle.

Al Jazeera reports that the place of the incident was blocked by the military of the Assad Army. The representatives of the Russian Armed Forces are also taking part in the investigation.

Russia’s Interfax news agency reports that the Russian Ministry of Defense denied the reports of any incidents involving Russian servicemen, calling it “fake news”.
