James Clapper: The Russia Today TV channel is directed against the United States
The U.S. National Intelligence Director, James Clapper, said he was "deeply concerned" about the activity of the Russia Today television channel, which, in his opinion, is directed against the United States, as stated during a Senate hearing on foreign cyber threats.
"As for the RT, it is well supported and financed by the Russian government. It is very actively promoting a particular point of view, disparaging our system, accusing the USA of hypocrisy regarding human rights and so forth," Clapper said.
He added that the publication of "false news" and "the use of social networks" are among the other ways that Russia conducts activity against the United States.
"The sum total of Russia's actions, regardless of the effect produced which we cannot measure, extremely worries me not only as a national intelligence director, but also as a citizen," he said.
