Chubarov: Four former Soviet countries are almost ready to recognize Crimea as Russian territory

The Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Refat Chubarov, stated on 112 Ukraine TV that four former members of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics are almost ready to recognize that the Crimea is no longer the territory of Ukraine.

“It is painful for me that four states of the former USSR—Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Belarus—these four states, judging from the essence of their actions, are allegedly ready to recognize that the Crimea is not the territory of Ukraine. I had a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. I think that we have to take specific actions, at least regarding the ambassadors of these countries. We should more clearly and firmly specify our position concerning the unacceptability of such behavior,” Chubarov said.

The Chairman noted that the Crimea remains a black area, not a grey area against the background of the Donbas. “There are OSCE observers, some contacts in Donbas. While in the Crimea, the occupation authorities do not allow anyone into the peninsula. We work in Kyiv in an emergency response mode with those members of Mejlis, who are in mainland Ukraine,” Chubarov said.

The U.N General Assembly previously adopted a resolution officially recognizing Russia as an occupier of the Crimea.
