Another Russian contract serviceman killed in Syria

On April 9, a Russian contract serviceman, Igor Zavidny, was killed in Syria, according to RBC news agency.

“They came under mortar fire, and two men died. By pure chance, his partner refused to go and another man from a different military unit went,” said his twin brother Evgeny Zavidny. He didn’t specify the name of the other soldier.

According to his brother, Igor Zavidny had a three-year contract and had fought in Chechnya, Dagestan, and Ingushetia.

Earlier on Monday, a friend, Irina Zubova, reported the death of Igor Zavidny. According to her, on April 11th, the coffin with Zavidny’s body will be brought to the city so that his mother could bury him. She also clarified that the dead soldier was born on July 3, 1982 in the city of Novotroitsk in the Orenburg region.

RBC says they are awaiting a comment from the Russian Defense Ministry.

As was reported, since the beginning of the year, six Russian contract soldiers have been killed in Syria. They worked with Wagner, a private military company. Additionally, three more Russian soldiers were killed in February, as reported by the media.

According to RBC, the number of mercenaries killed since the beginning of the Russian military campaign in Syria could be as many as 36. In all, 68 people have been killed since the start of the military operation.
