Media: flow of goods between Russia and separatist-held territories of Ukraine reaches $1.4 billion

The total trade between Russia and the separatist territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2016 is estimated at about $1.4 billion, as stated in an investigation conducted by LIGA.net.

According to insider data of the Federal Customs Service and Russian Railways, in 2016, goods and products worth $1.2 billion were shipped from Russia to the separatist-held territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Last year, companies from Russia supplied goods to separatist republics for a total of about $735 million, excluding natural gas. Gas supplies to separatist-held territories, according to Gazprom, amounted to 2.4 billion cubic meters. Based on gas prices as of December 31, 2016, the cost of this fuel was about $500 million dollars.

The bulk of Russian supplies were agricultural products and food, 36% in total, or $264 million. Coal, oil products, and iron ore account for more than 18%, or $136 million in the supply structure.

A fairly large list of products are sent to Russia from separatist-held territories of the Donbas. Last year, the volume of such "exports" was about 200 million dollars. Coal and various fuels accounted for 22.7%, or $44.4 million. Grain and finished agricultural products accounted for 35.7%, or $72 million.

"Thus, the total ‘trade turnover’ between the separatist republics and Russia in 2016 amounted to about $1.4 billion, taking into account the supplies of natural gas," the report said.
