Germany urges Russia to provide necessary medical care to Sentsov

Germany calls upon Russian Federation to provide immediate medical assistance to the imprisoned Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov, stated the Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid of Germany, Barbel Kofler.

"The fact that the European Court of Human Rights has urged Russia to provide Oleg Sentsov with the urgent necessary medical care, emphasizes the widespread concern about his health condition. It has worsened again since the beginning of his hunger strike in May, "the statement reads.

Barbel Kofler expressed hope that the Russian government will make a decision to provide immediate full access to health care. She also hopes for the early release of Sentsov and Kolchenko, "the statement says.

The previous day, the European Court of Human Rights appealed to the Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov, convicted in Russia, to stop the hunger strike and accept any treatment that will improve his condition.

At the same time, the court requested Russia to immediately provide Sentsov with the necessary treatment in a medical institution.

In August 2015, Russian Court sentenced Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov to 20 years in a strict regime prison on charges of planning terrorist attacks in Crimea after the peninsula was annexed by Russia. He does not admit his guilt. On the May 14th, Sentsov announced an indefinite hunger strike, demanding the release of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia.

Activists in Ukraine and around the world continue to demand that Russia and its president Vladimir Putin release the detained Ukrainians. The actions are held in different countries and on different continents under the slogans #FreeOlegSentsov and #SaveOlegSentsov.
