Chechen political activist Amina Okueva killed in Ukraine

Just outside of Kyiv on Monday evening there was an assassination attempt on Amina Okueva and Adam Osmaev, two persons of Chechen descent who took part in the Ukrainian military operation in the Donbas.

Okueva and Osmaev’s car was shot at by unknown persons at the railway crossing, as a result of which Okueva was killed and Osmaev wounded.

Anton Herashchenko, advisor to the Interior Minister, posted about this on his Facebook page.

“Adam Osmaev was wounded, but will live. I just spoke to him on the phone,” Herashchenko writes. According to him, a quick response investigative group is already working on the scene.

“The best memory of her will be the just retribution against everyone who was involved in this terrible murder,” Herashchenko added.

Cenzor.net writes that the attack was carried out by saboteurs.

Zorjan Shkirjak, advisor to the Ukrainian Interior Minister, wrote that Chief of National Police Serhiy Knyazev has gone to the scene of the crime.

MP Ihor Mosiychuk reported that Okueva was killed by a shot to the head.

According to MP Dmitry Linkov, Adam and Amina were shot with an automatic weapon. Osmaev was wounded in his leg, but according to Serhiy Knyazev his life is not under threat, and he is currently in hospital.

“The quick response plan ‘Siren’ has been initiated in the territory of the capital province and the neighboring region, and activities to search for and arrest the armed perpetrators are underway… We ask drivers to be understanding regarding the inspection of vehicles by the police,” reads the report posted on the regional chief of police’s Facebook page.

The town of Hlevakha is 35 km from Kyiv.

As MP Yevhen Deydey said in a 112 Ukraine broadcast, Timur Makhauri, who was killed in a car blast in September, served in the same division as Amina Okueva – the Kyiv 2 battalion.

Adam Osmaev was tagged in a picture on Facebook which says that they are “ready to face the next killers”.

The attack on Osmaev is already the second in the last six months. There was an attempt on his life in Kyiv on 1 June this year. On that occasion too, Osmaev was wounded by the assassin, but the assassin himself was killed in return fire from Osmaev’s wife Amina Okueva, who was carrying a weapon. The investigation, which noted that the assassin had Ukrainian citizenship documents, reported that the crime showed traces of Russia’s involvement.
