US State Department approves $141.5 million to Ukraine for rifles and grenade launchers
On September 12, the Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Clarke Cooper said that the US State Department approved the allocation of 141.5 million dollars to strengthen Ukraine's security and defense, reports the Voice of America citing the Defense News publication. The money will be used to buy sniper rifles and grenade launchers.
It is noted that this amount is provided additionally to $250 million assistance for the defense, that was granted earlier by the US Department of Defense.
"The US State Department assessed the following opportunities for foreign military funding and additional opportunities in countering the Russian aggression. We also support the destruction of conventional weapons and the storage of weapons. Therefore, we have many areas of assistance in the framework of the security strengthening program, which we have determined for Ukraine," said Cooper.
Earlier, US Senator Lindsey Graham said that US President's administration had unblocked military aid to Ukraine. US Defense Ministry should use the allocated $250 million in two weeks.
