Ukrainian diaspora intends to seek more stringent sanctions against Russia
The head of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), Eugene Czolij, has said that his organization plans to seek more stringent sanctions against Russia.
"I want to assure you that we will continue to take all possible measures to ensure that the sanctions are more stringent, including the shutdown of the SWIFT system in the Russian Federation," he said during a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman in Kyiv on Friday, writes Interfax-Ukraine.
In addition, the UWC aims to obtain a decision from the United States regarding the provision of lethal weapons to Ukraine.
At the same time, Czolij stressed the importance and priority of continuing the fight against corruption in Ukraine.
The European Union will begin a debate next week on whether to extend sanctions against Russia. In the meantime, German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that sanctions against Russia would not be lifted until the Russian Federation fulfilled all the necessary conditions.
Meanwhile, the US has codified its sanctions against Russia. The law passed by the US Senate does not directly introduce any new measures and does not oblige the president to introduce them. However, it provides for the possibility of introducing new sanctions against investors from any country, for example, for participating in the construction of Russian export pipelines. Additional restrictions prohibit the US president from removing sanctions from Russia without the approval of the Congress.
