Three Russian officers killed in Syria

Three officers of the Russian Armed Forces were killed in Syria, and two soldiers were seriously injured, reports the newspaper Vedomosti citing a source in the military and diplomatic circles. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 4, in the area of the Dzhurin village.

According to preliminary data, a group of eight people was going in the direction of the command observation post without crossing the demarcation line. There were two explosions of OZM-72 mines about 30 m before the observation post, and the fragments of the explosion killed three officers, and two were severely wounded.

Arab Al-Masdar news agency was the first to report about the incident. According to the news outlet, the operation was carried out by Syrian militants from the National Front for Liberation.

Russian Defense Ministry denied the information about the death of soldiers.

Russia launched a military operation in Syria in the fall of 2015. According to official data, 112 Russian soldiers were killed during this time.
