Russian Air Force received latest Mi-28UB helicopters
The Russian Aerospace Forces have added the first consignment of the latest Mi-28UB helicopters to their armament, TASS reports with reference to the Defense Ministry.
The addition of the helicopters to the forces was approved on Wednesday November 8 at a factory in Rostov-on-Don. “During the reception, representatives of the engineering and aviation services and flight personnel made control checks on the operation of the aviation equipment and various regimes on the ground and in the air,” the department reported. The machines have thus been adopted into the forces and will soon be sent to the 344th Center for Combat Employment and Retraining of Army Aviation Personnel in Torzhok, Tver province.
The “UB” in the name of this modification of the Mi-28N helicopter stands for “combat training” in Russian. Work to create the Mi-28UB began as early as 2010. It differs from the normal helicopters in that it has a double control system. Russian Helicopters Holdings emphasizes that, despite the change in construction, the Mi-28UB remains a fully-functional combat helicopter and can be used to strike ground and air targets. These machines were created to train military pilots, and their double control system allows the flight instructor to control the flight.
