Russia will compete for contract to supply Argentina with MiG-29 fighter jets
Russia sent Argentina the necessary materials to participate in a tender for the supply of fighter jets with its MiG-29, reports to TASS, citing Anatoly Punchuk, Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation and head of the official Russian delegation at the ExpoDefensa-2017 exhibition, which will take place from December 4 to 6 in Bogota, Colombia.
“Regarding the issue of the acquisition of Russian MiG-29s by Argentina, I note that the choice of technology is carried out in accordance with the required technical parameters and on a tender basis, and the final decision on the acquisition of technology is in the competent hands of the leadership of the Argentine Republic. As of today, Russia has expressed its willingness to participate in the tender and provided the necessary materials. We hope to win the tender,” said Punchuk.
Earlier, he told TASS that Argentina was interested in buying Russian MiG-29 fighters. Punchuk suggested that these aircraft are perfectly suited to the requirements and geographical conditions of the Argentine Air Force.
The multifunctional front-line MiG-29 fighter is designed to destroy air targets in both daylight and darkness and in calm and difficult weather conditions. The aircraft can effectively carry out the tasks of patrolling and air support for ground forces and landings, isolating a combat area, conducting air reconnaissance, intercepting air targets, accompanying armed and military transport aircraft, and striking ground and surface targets.
