Russia warns the US against using 'tough measures' against Syrian government forces
The American military should not use "tough measures" against the Syrian Army. Russia will analyze the situation in the de-escalation zones in the south-west of the country and draw appropriate conclusions, RBC news agency reports, quoting the Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, Vladimir Jabarov.
According to Jabarov, the use of "tough measures" against the Syrian military by the U.S. "is absolutely unacceptable".
"Americans have resorted to this practice before. I hope that there will be no unpredictable action against the Syrian government army. In any case, it is necessary to avoid the confrontation, " the senator said.
"Russia always listens to good advice. If this is really aimed at reducing tensions, then perhaps we will listen. I think that Russia with the data provided by its intelligence, intelligence services and government structures of Syria will analyze and make relevant conclusions, " he said.
Earlier, the US state department promised to take “firm and appropriate measures “in case the Syrian government forces start an offensive in the southwest of the country.
Washington called on Moscow to influence the Syrian authorities and prevent further expansion of the conflict zone.
“As a guarantor of this de-escalation area with Russia and Jordan, the United States will take firm and appropriate measures in response to Assad regime violations,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said.
There have been recent hostilities in the de-escalation zone in the southwest of Syria between the Syrian government forces and detachments of the Free Syrian Army.
