Kremlin: Russia prepares for possible US withdrawal from the nuclear deal on Iran
Russia is considering options for the possible withdrawal of the US from the Iranian nuclear program agreement, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.
He noted that although Washington did not officially announce the withdrawal from the agreement, "the essence of the demands put forward by President Donald Trump puts many things into question."
According to Interfax, Ryabkov said that the Russians are now holding consultations and "considering various options," especially at the Moscow conference on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
Ryabkov ruled out the possibility of restoring sanctions against Iran that were canceled after the with the agreement on the nuclear program was signed.
“Though Iran may fulfill all its obligations, we have no intention of restoring sanctions through the UN Security Council," Ryabkov said. He called Trump's decisions irresponsible.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Araghchi said that without the US the deal "will collapse." He also ruled out the possibility of revising the agreement or adding new requirements.
On October 13, Trump refused to confirm that Iran is fulfilling the nuclear deal. According to him, the deal does not meet the national interests of the United States, and Tehran is supporting terrorist organizations.
