Kremlin: Russia preparing for military outcome of the situation with North Korea
Russia is preparing for whatever military development with North Korea may soon arise, said the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Nikolai Patrushev, RIA Novosti reports.
In response to the question of whether Russia is preparing measures in case of a "military solution against the DPRK," Patrushev replied, "We are assessing it, preparing for it. It will not be a surprise to us."
Answering a question about whether there is a threat to Russia in the situation with North Korea, the Security Council Secretary stated, "Of course, there is."
"We are practically on the border with them. That’s why we are interested in everything to be solved in a political-diplomatic way," he said. "If there are military actions, and you know that certain countries have not discounted them, there can be a wide variety of problems for everyone, including us.”
Earlier, the DPRK launched the intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-15. Pyongyang asserts that it can reach any point on the territory of the United States. The missile flew about 950 kilometers, falling in the exclusive economic zone of Japan near the island of Hokkaido.
During the UN Security Council meeting held after the launch, the United States warned North Korea that they were ready to destroy the North Korean regime in case of war.
Later, Pyongyang declared they were ready to negotiate with the United States if the DPRK was recognized as a nuclear state.
