Ukrainian President extended the moratorium on the sale of land

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed amendments to the Land Code that will prolong the moratorium on the sale or alienation of agricultural land for another year, reported the President’s press service.

"President Petro Poroshenko signed the Law on Amendments to Section X ‘Transitional Provisions’ of the Land Code of Ukraine, passed by the Verkhovna Rada on December 7, 2017. The document extends the validity of the moratorium on sale or alienation of agricultural land for one year," the statement said.

It was noted that the implementation of the law would "ensure the formation of proper regulatory and legal support for the functioning of the agricultural land market." The document comes into force the day after its publication.

There has been a moratorium on the purchase and sale of agricultural land in Ukraine since 2002. Parliament has already extended it several times. During the September message to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainain Parliament), President Poroshenko promised that he would not force the parliament to implement a land reform. However, it is an important condition for the cooperation program between Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
