Ukrainian President announces successful missile tests

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko wrote on Facebook that according to the Kyiv based Luch design bureau, the Vilha missile system has been successfully tested. "It is especially pleasant that all components for the production of Vilha are Ukrainian," Poroshenko shared in the report.

Test launches of missiles were conducted in Ukraine on April 12 although the type of missiles launched from the mobile station was kept secret. On April 21, Kyiv reported on the successful planned launch of missiles that were produced with the cooperation of Ukroboronprom and the State Space Agency of Ukraine. During the tests, the missile control system was checked and accuracy of target engagement at maximum distance.

Earlier, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Olexander Turchynov said that Ukraine confidently affirms itself on the world stage as a modern space and aviation power. “Ukrainian scientists and designers are recognized in the world as authorities in the field of rocket and aircraft building. The enterprises of the domestic aerospace complex adequately fulfill the urgent tasks of national security and defense, and realize national geopolitical interests,” he stated.

”Strategic strides have been achieved in the production of modern aircraft and missile systems, which are not inferior to the best worldwide counterparts. Ukraine’s missile shield is being restored, which should become part of a unified security system on the European continent,” Turchynov stated.
