Ukrainian politician accuses Russia of changing the demographic composition of the Crimea
Deputy Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons George Tuka said during an annual meeting with European partners that Russia is constantly building up its military potential on the territory of the annexed Crimea, the ministry’s press service reports.
In Tuka's opinion, this could be a threat not only because of possible aggression of Russia against the mainland of Ukraine but also because of changes in the ethnic composition of the population of the region.
"The huge issue is the increase of Russia's military potential in the Crimea. Obviously, families are moving to the Crimea to live with the military. They do not stay for only a day or two. In this manner, Russia is repeating Soviet Union tactics by artificially changing the demographic composition of the entire region. This is a flagrant violation of international law," the Deputy Minister said.
He also added that Russian authorities in the annexed Crimea are blocking Ukrainian websites that allow study of Ukrainian language, literature, and history and the preparation for applying to educational institutions in Ukraine.
