U.S. vows to respond to Russian cyber-attacks

The U.S.A. is going to respond to threats in cyberspace, but is not willing to discuss this beforehand, the spokesman for the National Security Council of the White House, Mark Stroh, told Russia's RIA Novosti.

According to Stroh, the United States will protect its interests and will do it "at the time and place that we choose." However, in accordance with the experiences of the past, the public should not suggest that it will be aware of what actions are being taken and when they will be taken, he emphasized.

"We will not discuss the potential response, but let's say the following: some answers you can see, others – no," the representative of the White House added.

Previously, NBC News, citing an anonymous representative of the U.S. intelligence community and some secret documents, reported that U.S. military hackers had penetrated the Russian infrastructure and were ready to "strike if necessary."

A spokesman for the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the messages about cyber threats, said that Moscow was taking steps to increase cyber security at a level appropriate to the threats. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that should these threats be carried out, Moscow will have the right to bring charges against Washington.
