Survey: Most Russians think the world fears their country

About 86% of Russian citizens believe that people in the world fear Russia and 75% of them believe that this is a good thing, Interfax reported, citing a survey conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center.

Moreover, about 67% of respondents are convinced that Russia’s influence in the world in the recent years has increased and about 19% of them that it has decreased.

The respondents’ opinions regarding the world’s attitude towards Russia are divided. 48% of the respondents believe that the world’s attitude is negative while 42% of them that it is positive. However, every second respondent, (51%), believes that the world’s attitude towards Russia is biased, with 36% of the respondents having an opposite view.

At the same time, 58% of the respondents stated that they live in a rich country whereas 33% of those interviewed perceived their country as poor.

Additionally, 70% of the survey participants called Russia a free country, 22% of them had opposite view, and 65% of the participants said that they consider Russia to be a developing but at the same time an advanced country.

The survey was carried out on December 24th -25th and involved 1,500 respondents in 104 Russian settlements.
