Single mother unsuccessfully tries to prove to Russian court that she did not finance the 'Kiev junta'
Russian Ekaterina Vologzheninova, who is being convicted for making reposts of materials in support of Ukraine on her personal page on VKontakte, testified in court in her defense. The single mother tried to prove that she cannot finance terrorists as she only receives 500 rubles (about 8 dollars) of child benefits.
Video from the courtroom has been released by the Russian independent online publication Grani.ru.
"Ekaterina Vologzheninova who was convicted for making statements against the war with Ukraine, unsuccessfully tries to persuade the court that she is not able to fund terrorism as she receives just 500 rubles in child benefits," as was written in the comments to the video.
According to the online publication, on April 13th, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court dismissed Vologzheninova’s appeal and decided to include her on the extremists and terrorists list.
After the inclusion in the Russian monitoring list all her bank accounts were blocked, depriving her of her means of subsistence.
She appealed this judgment in the Yekaterinburg Railway Court, lost the case and appealed to the Regional Court. Now her lawyers are preparing a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights.
On February 20th, Vologzheninova was found guilty of inciting hatred and hostility and was sentenced to 320 hours of public service. According to the sentence, her laptop which was earlier confiscated is to be destroyed.
Vologzheninova stated, "I don’t want my child to live in such obscurantism."
