Russian MoD: Inspection of troops in Crimea is in its final stage
Russia stated that it is holding the final stage of the sudden readiness check of its troops in the Crimea and in the southern part of the country. According to the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry, the final stage of the readiness check took place on 30-31st of August.
“Tactical and special-tactical drills, including live fire, training in troops’ practical actions, training on countering sabotage and reconnaissance groups, exercises on driving combat vehicles and tanks, weapons, tactical, engineering, technical, medical and airborne trainings are currently ongoing at 14 combined forces training grounds in the Southern Military District,” the statement says.
The sudden readiness check of the Russian Armed Forces began on the 25th of August. The Russian Minister of Defense, Sergey Shoygu reported that it will last until the 31st of August. The evaluation of the Army’s ability to rapidly achieve readiness in the southwestern part of the country is one of the declared goals of the drills.
Russian military-transport aircraft performed the deployment of special task units from northwestern Russia to the training grounds in the Southern Military District. Twenty IL-76 aircraft were used for the readiness check.
On the 26th of August, 15 warships from the Black Sea Fleet and 10 ships from the Caspian Fleet went out to sea to check their readiness. Recently, such readiness checks have become more frequent in the Russian Army.
