Russian MFA: Moscow is ready to assist in reaching political solution in Libya
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Moscow is ready to assist in the process of reaching a political solution to the situation in Libya, RIA Novosti reported.
Following a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the armed forces loyal to the elected, internationally backed Libyan government, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported in a statement that “the conversation focused on the development of a military-political solution in Libya, while noting the need to consolidate all Libyans to deal with terrorist structures throughout the country.”
Russia “confirmed Moscow's readiness to contribute to the successful promotion of the political process with the leaders of the various political forces in Libya,” the statement added.
Last month, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it would consider providing military assistance to the Libyan government if such assistance were requested.
