Russian Media: US sanctions could block the import of smartphones and tablets into Russia

The sanctions imposed in December of last year by the United States against the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) can block the import of electronics with encryption abilities into Russia, as published on the RBC website, citing a statement made by the law firm of Baker & McKenzie.

According to the statement, they have already warned their customers about possible problems. "Since the FSB carries out certain administrative functions such as examination and approval of commercial encryption products for import and distribution in Russia, the effect upon certain U.S. companies and individuals that are doing business in Russia can be significant," the statement says.

As a result, the export of mobile phones, tablets, and even wireless mice to the Russian Federation is under threat.

The export of such products to the Russian Federation requires the endorsement of the FSB. However, this is now impossible, since U.S. companies are prohibited from any commercial engagement with the FSB.

The sanctions against the FSB were introduced in December last year in response to the Russian hacker attacks on the United States.
