Media: Russian general seriously wounded in Palmyra
Russian Major-General Petr Milyukhin is the first Russian general who was wounded in Syria. He has lost both legs and his eyes.
Milyukhin was seriously injured during the battle for the Syrian city of Palmyra, after which he was taken to the Main Military Clinical Hospital (named after NN Burdenko), which is located in Moscow.
The newspaper Fontanka broke the story, citing a source at the hospital.
It is reported that Major-General Peter Milyukhin was injured about a week ago when a mine blew up, causing him to lose both legs as well as his eyes. He received first aid on site, but he was transferred to Moscow after deterioration.
"He is with us; we cannot say anything more," a source in the hospital told the publication.
According to the newspaper, Milyukhin was responsible for the development of combat operations as well as the monitoring of their implementation.
It was reported earlier that the Syrian army took Palmyra. The Russian Defense Ministry said that the city was taken with the support of the Russian air fleet.
