Russian FSB detains manager of company building power bridge to Crimea

The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) has detained the First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the Federal Grid Company of the Unified Energy System (FGC UES), Valery Goncharov, as reported by the Russian newspaper, Novaya Gazeta.

According to the edition, the top manager is suspected of serious fraud in the construction of the power bridge to the Crimea. He was detained at a Moscow airport while trying to fly abroad. His place of work and a number of home addresses have already been searched.

From December 2015 to May 2016 Russia launched four lines of a power bridge to the Crimea. According to Russian authorities, the peninsula now has 1270 MW of power available within the expected consumption level of 1100-1150 MW during the summer.

The Russian Ministry of Energy purchased the construction of the power bridge to the Crimea from the general contractor JSC’s ECMC UES (a subsidiary of PJSC "FGC UES").
