Russian politician: Russia will respond to NATO's actions in Eastern Europe
Russia will respond to NATO’s military buildup in Eastern Europe, as stated by the Deputy Head of Russia’s Upper House Committee for Defense and Security, Franz Klintsevich, Russian media reports.
According to him, by deploying troops in Eastern Europe, NATO is creating a foothold in the region for a global strike on Russia.
He noted that a number of NATO military personnel in the Baltic, Romania and Poland have increased 19 times, however, according to him, this figure is no danger to Russia.
Klintsevich added that “in fact, a foothold is being prepared where equipment will be brought and training sites created in order to implement their [NATO's] big plans.” According to him, Russia will respond to NATO’s strengthening.
“Of course, we will retarget combat facilities and move our troops taking into account NATO’s activities. First of all, it will pose a threat to the countries with NATO missile defense systems. We do not hide that,” Klintsevich said.
In early May, the United States Secretary of Defense, Ash Carter, stated that NATO is planning to deploy four battalions to the countries in Eastern Europe that joined the North Atlantic Alliance in response to Russia’s aggressive behavior.
