Russia starts full scale air operation in Idlib and Homs

The Russia military has begun a full scale air operation in the Syrian provinces of Idlib and Homs, as stated by the Russian Minister of Defense, Sergey Shoygu.

“Today at 10:30-11:00 am we started a large air campaign with the purpose of  launching strikes on the positions of the ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra in the provinces of Idlib and Homs,” the Minister stated at a meeting with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.

He added that for the first time in the history of the Russian military, the deck aviation from Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier is taking part in the operation. Sukhoi Su-33 fighter jets from the ship are involved in the operation

The minister added that the Russian military is striking the factories that the militants use for production of chemical weapons.

“These are full blown factories not just production lines, but real factories,  for manufacturing of different chemicals of mass destruction,” said Shoygu

“We understand that these are well-run production facilities and we are striking them, “ stated the Minister.

He pointed out that previously Russia sent to Syria a large group of the radioactive, bacterial and chemical defense specialists to determine what types of the poisonous materials are used by terrorist groups.

According to Shoygu, over the last week the poisonous substances were used twice. The first time their use resulted in 27 people being hospitalized and 3 dead and the second time 30 were hospitalized. All of them were the servicemen from the Army of Bashar al-Assad
