NATO confirmed the presence of Russian warships in the Baltic Sea

BNS reported that according to Dylan White, Press Secretary of NATO, the Alliance has confirmed the entry of two Russian warships into the Baltic Sea. He said the ships may be carrying Kalibr long-range missile systems that are allegedly armed with nuclear warheads. The effective attack range of those missiles is 2,600 kilometers.

The NATO representative noted that Russia is “allowed to act in international waters” but such actions “show yet again Moscow’s military activities near NATO borders.” This, according to him, shows a lack of transparency and a growing risk in relations between the alliance and Russia. However, NATO is ready to continue the dialogue with Russia regarding these and other issues, White added.

Earlier, media reported that Kalibr-NK cruise missile carriers Serpukhov and Zelenydol, small missile ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet entered the Baltic Sea after a long cruise.

The head of the military department of public relations of the Ministry of Defense of Latvia, Caspar Galkin, called the deployment of Russian missile ships to the Baltic Sea “a form of psychological pressure.”
