Moscow Metro's construction workers go on strike due to unpaid wages

In Moscow, Metro construction workers are on strike, reports Dozhd. SMU Ingeocom workers are complaining about unpaid wages and refuse to go to work.

On Friday, nearly 40 people, mainly migrant workers, came to the offices of Ingeocom on Yakovoapostolsky Lane. Negotiations with SMU Ingeocom management were held with the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Trade Union of Migrant Workers, Renat Karimov. According to him, wages have not been paid due to underfunding.

"It should matter little to us because people work every day in difficult conditions for up to 12 hours, which constitutes a violation of labor laws. Our legal demands are as follows: to receive wages for our hard and conscientious work that is essential for Muscovites," Karimov noted.

Karimov said that since March 1st people have stopped showing up for work. However, he did not call this a strike, "We don’t want to go on strike; we would like to end the conflict in a civilized manner."

The leader also mentioned that Metro workers perform highly-paid work. More than a hundred workers have not received their wages; more than 100,000 rubles are owed to each worker. According to Karimov, people will start to work only when the wages are paid.

In Russia, strikes are being increasingly held because of unpaid wages. Last spring and summer Russian Space Centrer workers launched a hunger strike after Vladimir Putin’s promises failed. In autumn and winter the teachers' strike began in Transbaikalia due to unpaid wages as well.
