Media reported on construction of a fence on the border between Poland and Russia's Kaliningrad region
A fence with barbed wire appeared on the border of Poland and Russia in the Kaliningrad region. Construction of the fence near the border of the Russian Federation has been going on for more than a month, Radio Poland reported.
"We don't know why this fence is needed. Work has been underway for some time, but we don't know why the fence is being built and what its function is," an ensign of the Warmian - Masurian Border Guard Service, Anna Lusnia, said.
The Polish radio station Radio ZET also reported about the construction of the fence; the report was accompanied by photographs taken by a journalist.
Radio Poland reported that the small car border traffic between Poland and Kaliningrad district is still not restored and has been suspended since the 4th of July, 2016. The Ministry of the Interior of Poland stated this was done for security reasons.
Meanwhile, the press service of the Russian Border Service indicated to Kaliningrad.Ru news portal that the reports about the construction of a fence on the border of Poland and the Kaliningrad region are not true.
"A fence with barbed wire on the Russian-Polish border appeared during the Soviet times. New fences have not been built. Perhaps the photo shows a newly repaired area. Hard to say for sure, because for some reason the journalists have not specified where the picture was taken," the Russian Border Service said.
