Mail.Ru Group closes its office in Ukraine
Mail.ru Group, a Russian-based, major corporate figure intends to close its representative office in Ukraine due to imposed sanctions, according to Borys Dobrodeev, Mail.ru Group CEO in an interview with Russian newspaper Kommersant.
“The presence of the representative office at the market no longer makes sense in view of those sanctions imposed by Ukraine against us. I will only say that these are fairly compact structures,” he said.
According to Dobrodeev, Mail.Ru Group proposed moving its Ukrainian project team to Russia. He said that the Ukrainian business “didn’t make an essential contribution to the company’s income” therefore Mail.Ru does not expect a significantly negative impact on its financial performance. Earlier, the group stated that it does not intend to make changes in its activities due to sanctions.
In brief, on May 16, President Petro Poroshenko put into effect the resolution of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) about sanctions against 1,228 individuals and 468 legal entities. The resolution bans providers from making access available to the resources of Mail.ru, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, and Yandex services.
