Lukashenko: Belarus successfully tested new missile
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has called the 16th of June a “happy day in terms of security and defense” due to the successful launch of a Belarusian-developed missile.
“During the first launch, the rockets just missed the target by one and a half meters. It hit just 10 meters away from the target on the second launch. It’s perfect,” Lukashenko said.
He added that the missile system was developed in the country over a period of two years. He asked that the Prime Minister of the country, Andrei Kobyakov, consider presenting state awards to those involved with the missile’s development.
The Belarusian news agency, BeITA, reported that combat launches of the MLRS Polonez were carried out for the first time in the country on Thursday. This system is being adopted by the Armed Forces of Belarus.
According to the Security Council of Belarus, the system is capable of hitting troops and military vehicles at a distance of between 50 and 200 km with a high accuracy rate.
It has been reported that the MLRS Polonez, with its calibers of 300 mm and 301 mm, was most likely developed jointly with China. It is very likely that the system uses A200 Chinese rockets.
