Lavrov: Russia is committed to building a self-sufficient economy

Russia has committed itself to building a self-sufficient economy. Under sanctions imposed by countries around the world, they will rely on their own forces. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this in an interview with the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

"We will now depend only on ourselves, we have all the resources for it. Thank God, the Lord and our ancestors left us a country which is self-sufficient. We will make it work so that under any circumstances we will never feel the need for anything that is from overseas. I'll repeat it again, this is our strategic course," Lavrov said.

According to him, this does not mean isolation. When the "Western partners" decide to return to normal behavior, it will bring additional opportunities for growth and development of cooperation. "For now, we will rely only on ourselves for all the basic things," Lavrov said.

He added that "business as usual is absolutely impossible, because this kind of business, as understood by the West, the European Union and NATO, means only one thing: that we owe everyone and should become the same as they are."

"There is a tendency in the West, for example, for human rights to evolve in the direction of universal indulgence and permissiveness. They do not care that it is contrary to the fundamentals of our culture, which is based on the Orthodox religion - Christianity," Lavrov said.
