Kyiv court arrests former Kharkiv governor

The Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv arrested former Kharkiv governor Mikhail Dobkin. According to channel 112 Ukraine, the court decided to detain him for two months, and also placed bail at 50 million hryvnia or $1.9 million.

“I don’t understand what it is linked to or where this sum comes from. I understood that I will not be detained immediately, that they will give me 5 days as an alternative, to deposit bail, and if I don’t deposit, I will be arrested,” the MP said. He added that he is effectively under arrest, because he does not have 50 million hryvnia.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine suspects Dobkin of intentionally colluding with a group of entities “to misuse official position”, with the goal of seizing 78 hectares of land in Kharkiv worth 200 million hryvnia. On July 13, the Verkhovna Rada removed Dobkin’s parliamentary immunity and allowed him to be held criminally accountable.
