Kremlin spokesman: Russia and the US must cooperate to defeat international terrorism

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, neither the US nor Russia can defeat terrorism on its own, and it is necessary for the two countries to pursue cooperation, TASS reported.

During a visit to New York to attend the World Chess Championship, Peskov said, “It is impossible to defeat terrorism on your own. It requires cooperation and we have been denied this cooperation. This is the absurdity of the situation.”

Peskov pointed to the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, saying, “Had the US security services listened to us, human lives could have been saved.”

The Kremlin spokesman expressed hope that relations between Washington and Moscow will improve once US President-Elect Donald Trump takes power.

Recently, Moscow admitted that it had been in contact with Trump’s team during the presidential elections, though the latter denies that it had communicated with any Russian authorities.
