In Russia, government-run channels sharply reduced references to Trump

Dozhd news agency, alluding to a broadcasted study, reported that Russian government-run channels have sharply reduced references to U.S. president Donald Trump.

During the first week of February, Trump was referred to 61 times a day, and beginning from February 14, the number dropped to 12 times daily.

Bloomberg reported last week that the Kremlin has instructed the state media to stop praising Trump. The administration of the Russian president said to Dozhd that the Kremlin is not concerned about the nature of the references, but rather of their quantity.

"The result was a shameful situation for Russia; more was being said in the news about the U.S than about Russia. As if their news had an impact on what’s happening here. This should not be the case," said the channel's correspondent.

Sunday’s final broadcast transmission did not include a single story devoted to the situation in the U.S. or Donald Trump.

RBC also analyzed mentions of Trump on Russian television after the Bloomberg article was published. Over the past two weeks, Russian TV has mentioned the U.S. President four times less than before.

In mid-February, the U.S. president said that the Crimea was annexed by Russia. The Press Secretary for the U.S. president added that Trump expects the return of the Crimea to Ukraine.

After that, the Kremlin instructed the Russian media to stop praising Trump.

The Russian government has also concluded that the first month of Donald Trump’s presidency has not given serious reasons to hope for improved relations between Moscow and Washington, and suggested that they may be impaired.
