Georgian President: Russian policy is one of the greatest threats to the Caucasus

While speaking at the fourth Global Baku Forum organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili stated that Russian policy is one of the greatest threats to the region.

"State security in the region changed significantly in a short period of time. The cornerstone of our common security in the region involves disrupting the creeping Russian occupation in Georgia, the events in Ukraine, the growing threat of terrorism and the crisis of refugees, “Margvelashvili stated, as reported by Gruzya Online.

The Georgian President also spoke about relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan, affirming the need for the two neighbors to maintain friendly relations based on shared values

While participating in this year’s forum forum entitled “Towards a Multipolar World”, Margvelashvili added that "today, 20% of Georgian territories are occupied by the Russian Federation, 15% of our population has become IDPs [internally displaces persons]. Despite this, Georgia has managed to make the largest contribution to NATO’s mission of global security by a non-member country.”

Over the last 3 years, the Global Baku Forum has drawn over 100 current and former heads of state and government, as well as hundreds of leaders from civil society and the public and private sectors.
