Former head of Russia's Roskosmos found dead in Moscow

Vladimir Yevdokimov, former executive director of the state corporation “Roskosmos”, arrested on charges of fraud, was found dead in the Investigatory Isolation Center in northern Moscow, Interfax reported with reference to a source in the law enforcement agencies.

“Yevdokimov’s body was discovered this morning in one of the cells of SIZO-5 (Investigatory Isolation Center) on Vyborg street. The cause of death is being established,” the source said. He added that an investigative team had already arrived at the scene of the incident.

Eva Merkacheva, a member of the Public Monitoring Commission of Moscow, confirmed the details of Vlidimir Yevdomikov’s death to Ria Novosti news agency.

Sergey Moroz, department head of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) across Moscow has already initiated an official investigation into Vladimir Yevdokimov’s death. “Results will be sent to the investigative bodies according to the results of the investigation,” the FSIN representative noted.

On December 1, the Moscow Basmanny Court authorized the detention of Vladimir Yevdokimov, executive director of quality control and reliability of Roskosmos and Zolin, former General Director of the “Scientific-Technical Center” CJSC, until January 30 2017. Later the Moscow city court recognized the arrest as legal.

In January this year, the court extended the previously chosen detention period of the accused.
