Estonia revoked citizenship of Russian spy’s wife

The Estonian Government has decided to revoke the citizenship of Viktoria Dressen, wife of the former security police officer, Aleksei Dressen, who was found guilty of treason, reported Postimees.

Viktoria Dressen was also accused of high treason and being an accessory to the transfer of classified information and received a suspended sentence of six years in prison. The probationary period is five years.

The prime minister of Estonia, Taavi Rõivas, reported at a press conference that the government had made an unprecedented decision.

“We deprived a traitor of Estonian citizenship. This is a precedent,” Rõivas noted.

In July 2012, a court found Aleksei Dressen guilty of high treason and transferring classified information and sentenced him to a 16-year imprisonment.

In 2015, his Estonian citizenship was revoked.

On September 26, 2015, Estonian citizen Kohver was exchanged for Dressen, who served his sentence for transmitting confidential information from the Russian FSB.
