NATO refutes information by Der Spiegel on weakness of the Alliance

NATO has rejected accusations by the German edition Der Spiegel on the inability of the Alliance forces to rapidly deploy or bring in reinforcements across Europe. NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said that "NATO forces are now more ready and capable of deployment than they have ever been in the last decade".

“We do not comment on alleged leaks. NATO is the strongest alliance in the world because it's been able to adapt for almost 70 years," Lungescu said.

The media representative for the military bloc noted that NATO is at present significantly strengthening its collective defense.

“NATO is implementing the biggest reinforcement of its collective defense since the end of the Cold War. This includes deploying four multinational battle-groups to the east of the Alliance, including the one led by Germany in Lithuania, and tripling the size of the NATO Response Force, with a new 5,000-strong quick reaction force at its core. NATO forces are more ready and able to deploy than at any time in decades,” Lungescu stressed.

Previously, the media had reported that NATO member countries would not be ready to give a worthy rebuff in case of an attack by Russia on the eastern wing of the alliance.

According to the internal documents of the organization, the ability of NATO's rapid reaction forces to adequately respond to the challenges is questionable. In addition, there are serious problems with logistics in this regard.
