Kremlin: Moscow and Washington began a dialogue on Syria
According to statements made by the head of the State Duma Defense Committee Vladimir Shamanov on Wednesday, April 11, the Russian Federation has begun a dialogue with the United States regarding the situation in Syria, TASS reported.
"There is a direct dialogue with the leadership of the Joint Chiefs of Staff [of the United States Armed Forces]. Through our allies, Turkish colleagues, communications are checked with and clarified by NATO," Shamanov said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that on April 12, the military police would be dispatched to the Syrian city of Douma to ensure security and organize assistance to the civilian population.
On the evening of April 6, Syrian troops launched an operation to free the city of Douma . Douma was the last city not controlled by the forces of President Bashar al-Assad in Eastern Ghouta. This region is near Damascus.
Later, it was reported that a chlorine bomb had been dropped on Douma. Information about the use of nerve gas also surfaced. President of the United States Donald Trump promised before the evening of April 11 to announce the punishment for Damascus, and possibly Moscow and Tehran, for supporting al-Assad. However, the period during which the American leader promised to make an announcement on Syria has come and gone.
Damascus rejects all accusations in its address. Russia warned the US of serious consequences of strikes against Syria.
