Moldovan pro-presidential party calls for cancellation of the Association Agreement with the EU
The oppositional, pro-presidential Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) will insist on the annulment of the Association Agreement with the European Union, as noted in a statement by the Political Executive Committee of the party, Ukrinform reports.
"The Political Council of the PCRM states that the party remains committed to the need for the early annulment of the Association Agreement with the EU, and we will insist on and work towards it. This is our political task and commitment to the voters. We believe that today, Eurasian integration is the only advantageous solution for the socio-economic development of Moldova," the statement said.
The Socialists argue their position by claiming that "after the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union, the socio-economic situation in the country has deteriorated."
In its statement, the Socialist Party also calls on fellow citizens to be ready for full-scale protest actions, including convocation of the Great National Assembly.
Earlier, Moldovan President Igor Dodon announced the forthcoming protests, which will be held in Chisinau on September 24.
As reported in January, Dodon announced his readiness to cancel the Moldova-EU Association Agreement. The Moldovan leader initiated the signing of a framework Memorandum on Moldova's cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Union.
