Iranian President Rouhani stated that payments with Russia will be made in local currency
Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan can switch to transactions in national currency, stated the President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, at the press conference in Tehran, TASS reported.
As a result of the trilateral summit, the countries are also planning to create a customs corridor and comply with common customs standards. "During the Tehran summit, we talked about cooperation in the banking sector and the use of national currencies in trade between the three countries to use our national currencies both in bilateral and trilateral format," Rouhani said.
He added that he had discussed technical cooperation in the field of gas and oil production technologies with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev. "Our electrical networks should be synchronized and connected to each other so that we can use each other's existing energy potential," Rouhani stressed.
In turn, Putin after the summit confirmed that Russia is ready to supply gas to Northern Iran through Azerbaijan. "We confirm our readiness to supply gas via the pipeline transport systems of Azerbaijan to the north of Iran, which can be economically feasible for our partners," the president stated.
Also during the summit, Rosneft and the Iranian national company NIOC signed a "roadmap" for strategic projects in the field of oil and gas production with a total investment up to $30 bn. "With the implementation of these projects, the level of oil production can reach 55 million tons of oil per year", Igor Sechin, head of Rosneft, emphasized.
