Hungary accuses EU of using double standards towards Poland

The European Commission is using a double standard in relation to Poland, as well as to Hungary, as stated by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, Wiener Zeitung writes.

"Double standards are being used against Poland and Hungary. When Greece builds a fence on the border, it is normal. But when we do the same, it is not," Szijjártó explained and added that any attempts by the European Commission to impose sanctions on Poland due to judicial reform will be blocked.

On August 31st, the First Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, said that the European Commission does not want to use sanctions against Poland, but it may be forced to apply them in connection with Warsaw's violation of the European principle of the rule of law during judicial reforms.
