European Commission ready to provide Ukraine with assistance of 1 billion euros

The European Commission is ready to offer Ukraine a new package of macro-financial assistance in the amount of 1 billion euros, despite the incomplete fulfillment of the previous program requirements, as stated by Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice-President of the European Commission, on Radio Liberty.

According to him, the European Commission is ready to agree on the aid package for Ukraine next week.

Dombrovskis sad, "This was discussed at the end of last year, when the previous program was over and unfortunately we were unable to transfer the last tranche of 600 million euros, as not all conditions were met. Therefore, we have prepared another program of macro-financial assistance in the amount of 1 billion euros in two tranches, 500 million each. So now we have launched all the necessary procedures."

He hopes that the European Commission will start providing financial support to Ukraine under the new program in early autumn.

Dombrovskis noted that, in the opinion of the European Commission, in order to receive the first tranche, Ukraine needs to fulfill the requirements that were not fulfilled under the previous cooperation program.
